I love a good smoothie. Today I was not feeling so well (for personal and feminine reasons) so I thought I would whip up a massive smoothie to get me through a long afternoon of editing photos and feeling miserable. I like editing photos, but not so much the feeling miserable part. After a weird bout of sickness and a really strong antibiotic, I've been trying to build up my immune system again with lots of probiotics (good bacteria). I made this smoothie "dairy-free" for myself in the sense that I can handle goat milk products, just not cow products. If you are truly dairy-free or vegan then you can substitute the goat yogurt for something else. If you eat dairy morning, noon, and night...then by all means use whatever dairy products you so desire in place of the goat yogurt and coconut milk. Also, this is a smoothie...so you can kind of just throw in whatever you want and mix it until it tastes good to you!
Enjoy!
Bonnie's Epic Berry/Banana Smoothie!
Ingredients: 1/2 cup SO Delicious Vanilla Cultured Coconut Milk (or a dairy drink/sub of your choice)
3/4 cup goat yogurt (or yogurt of your choice)
1 cup Bolthouse Farms Berry Boost (it was on sale at Aldi!)
1 cup sliced frozen bananas
1 handful of ice
You can use a blender or food processor, but I use an immersion blender and a cocktail mixing cup (scandalous!) I love this hand blender so much, it is waay less messy and clean up is a lot faster. Amazon.com has a great selection you can find here.
In case you were wondering about the frozen bananas, I simply found a couple bags of ripe bananas on the clearance cart at the grocery store, sliced them up, placed them on freezer paper on a cookie sheet, and froze them like this. You can put them in bags afterwards or just leave them. I left them for a few weeks until I realized that I needed my cookie sheet back...
They make a great base for a smoothie and the frozen bananas give it a great consistency and keep it cold!
So, it's pretty simple! Blend all your ingredients (except the ice) together until you get the desired consistency. Once you are happy with the smoothie, add the ice last and be careful not to blend it too much or it will just turn to water. This "recipe" filled a 24oz tumbler, so it's definitely a full meal or you can divide it up for two meals.
And just to show you that I'm about 100 years old, this is how I really drink it.
I do love a lid and a straw.
Calm Down Friends!
Bonnie
